Opportunity to meet the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak

My supervisors ask me to attend one talk on legal professional ethics and mobile court today. I am excited as the speaker is none other than the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia himself, YAA Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Richard Malanjum. The talk is held at the auditorium, Chempaka building, Law Faculty from 2.30 pm until 4.00 pm.

According to YAA, currently, the public perception to the legal profession is on the negative side. Hence, in order to regain the respect of the public, YAA suggests that the legal profession should observe to ethics rules, and the rules need to be reviewed every now and then. YAA further discussed the legal provisions concerning ethics enforceable in West Malaysia, and Sabah and Sarawak.

YAA also touches on the implementation of mobile court system in Sabah and Sarawak, where magistrates and court officers become mobile in serving the needs of the people in Sabah and Sarawak. Not only the system will assist the poor rural group in saving costs and time, but it also serves as leadership training for the magistrates and court officers.

If you’d like to know more about the mobile court system in Sabah and Sarawak, kindly visit the Sabah and Sarawak courts website.
